Coronavirus Update 15: Lessons, Exams and Graduation Sessions in Mixed Mode

From the first semester of the academic year 2020-2021, in compliance with the safety protocols aimed at safeguarding and protecting the health of all components of the university community, the teaching activity will take place in mixed mode, i.e. in presence with simultaneous live streaming (online), guaranteeing priority for activities in the presence of new freshmen.

Exams and the final tests for the achievement of qualifications are held both in presence and online.

Safety Fist: Choose How to Attend

The Rector of Tor Vergata University Orazio Schillaci: “It seems just right to give priority to those who already had to face a very particular final school exam and are enrolling in the 1st year thus experiencing their first impact with the university.”

“The programming for students who will attend lessons on site will follow the alphabetical order criterion. We leave it to the students to decide to attend in presence, if programmed, or to follow at a distance (online), if they believe that this mode ensures them greater safety or in the case of students who live outside Rome.”

Exams

The exams can be carried out in person, ensuring the distancing rules and the use of PPE, without prejudice to the possibility of carrying out the same at a distance, according to the assessment of the teacher. The exams can also be held remotely (online), according to the assessment of the teacher.

Graduation Session

For students who were unable to complete their thesis due to the Covid-19 emergency lockdown extraordinary graduation sessions have been set up until September 2020 with full reimbursement of enrollment in the academic year 2019-20.

The final tests for the attainment of the qualifications will take place in presence. A maximum of two accompanying persons for each student will be allowed, guaranteeing safety distance and any other safety measure in relation to the number of undergraduates.

According to the teaching owner’s assessment, the student will have the opportunity to take the exam tests remotely (online).

International and Erasmus Students

International and Erasmus students will be guaranteed the possibility to attend lessons and taking the final exams/tests online.

Laboratories and Complex Instruments

The laboratory managers regulate, through shifts, access to shared laboratories to the various division and allocation of spaces and the creation of obligatory paths and passages, in agreement with the Director of the Department, in compliance with the indications provided in this Protocol and any specific directives issued by the competent Doctor and the Head of the Protection and Prevention Service (RSPP) also regarding the reorganization of spaces.

The head of the laboratory, in agreement with the Director of the Department, prepares a weekly work plan for the technical staff involved in the management of the equipment and / or employed in the service laboratories, keeping in mind that these are work activities that are impossible to carry out remotely and consequently establishing weekly operating days or only in certain daily time bands.

In order to ensure the physical spacing required by regulations, alternative methods must be provided for sample delivery or collection of results, mainly not in person (e.g. results sent by email, sharing of data folders, workstations outside the laboratories to deposit samples). A maximum number of people including the technician who can be present in the laboratory at the same time must be established, in relation to the free surface of the room, the need for movement typical of laboratory work and the instruments present.

Libraries, Reading and Computer Rooms

Since 6 July 2020, the reading rooms inside the libraries have been open for study. Access must be made by reservation and ensuring safety and physical distancing and on the basis of a specific protocol set by the Head of the Protection and Prevention Service in agreement with the library managers.

Access to libraries is by reservation, with a special app, for a limited number of places. The managers of the libraries organize a consultation service for paper documentation, guaranteeing safety and physical distancing, based on parameters similar to those adopted for research laboratories.

A control service will be guaranteed for the management of any gatherings in the reading rooms. Access to the computer rooms must also be made by reservation and guaranteeing security and physical distancing, on the basis of parameters similar to those adopted for research laboratories.
