Next February 26 the local selections of FameLab 2019, the first international talent of scientific communication for young researchers and students under 40 university students, will take place at Tor Vergata University’s Congress and Representation Center in Villa Mondragone.
What is FameLab?
Created in 2005 by the Cheltenham Science Festival, FameLab is an initiative that now involves 31 countries worldwide; since 2012 it has been held in Italy thanks to the collaboration between Psiquadro and British Council Italia: Tor Vergata University of Rome is local coordinator for Rome.
Participants are required to pitch in just 3 minutes with clarity, accuracy, charisma – and without the help of graphs, projections or videos – the object of their studies or the scientific topic that mostly matters to them: as it happens in talent shows, performers will be judged by a jury of experts from the world of science and communication.
The winner of the Italian edition will the meet the winners of the competition from 30 other countries worldwide. The international final is scheduled for June 2019 during the Cheltenham Science Festival in the United Kingdom.
Italian Selections and Finals
Since 2012 FameLab Italia has reached 18 cities and involved over 700 young researchers thanks to a collaboration with more than 70 cultural partners between universities, research institutes and public bodies, science communication companies, museums and media partners.
FameLab 2019 will involve 12 cities: The 20 selected finalists will participate in the science communication masterclass in April, awaiting the national final in May and the international final in June.
The finalists of FameLab 2019 will be selected in 10 cities: Ancona, Catania, Florence, Foggia, Genoa, L’Aquila, Pavia, Perugia, Rome and Trieste. In each of these cities the competition is divided into two phases: the pre-selection and the final selection. ”
How to Partecipate
The local selections will take place in Rome are scheduled for 26 February 2019 at Villa Mondragone, Congress and Representation Center of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”.
